London Fashion Week is in full swing and we’re on the hunt for the best beauty looks of the week. At the Giles show, makeup artists went for a bright red lip as the focus of the face, with little other makeup. Hair was slicked back in an elegant chignon. Tres chic indeed!

Backstage at Anna Sui, hair was kept simple. Hairstylists added body by securing rollers to the top of the hair, and applying a bit of heat and hairspray to set. The result was an easy, natural, slight wave.

Backstage Hair at Vera Wang

The inspiration for Vera Wang’s collection was 1930’s American Aristocrat with English influences. It certainly came across in the pieces shown. Drop waists and ethereal flowing dresses were seen throughout. For hair, stylist Orlando Pita complimented the aesthetic of the clothes with slicked back slightly messy hair which he then teased and pinned under. The sleek, slightly gothic look made for an interesting juxtaposition with Wang’s American Aristocrat theme.

Backstage at ADAM, models were fresh faced. Eyes were lined with a thick black liner and long false lashes and the rest of the face was simple and muted. Hair was pulled back into a low twisted ponytail. Hair and makeup complimented designer Adam Lippes fresh, fun, feminine collection perfectly.

Fun, Full Eyelashes

Tip: Exaggerated lashes like the ones pictured above are a great way to spice up a Halloween costume!

Sometimes it’s fun to go a bit more glamorous. If you’re looking to add some instant va va voom to your look, try out a pair of false lashes. While we don’t recommend falsies for everyday use, they can be great for a birthday, special event, or just a fun night out. You can also get this look at home. Applying false lashes isn’t nearly as scary as it seems. To apply you’ll need a set of lashes (which can be purchased at any beauty supply store), a toothpick, and lash glue.

1) First, decide what type of lashes you want. If you’re going for something subtle, try shorter lashes. Remember, the longer the lashes the more dramatic the affect. If you want your lashes to look natural, don’t get them too long.
2) Before putting on lashes, be sure to apply all eye makeup, including mascara.
3) Squeeze a small, very then line of glue all along the rim of your false lashes.
4) Bend lashes a few times into a horseshoe shape. This is a very important step. Otherwise the lashes could be too stiff and won’t form to the shape of your natural lash.
5) Looking into a mirror, apply falsies above lashes as close to your lash line as possible.
6) If need be, adjust lashes with tweezers or a toothpick.
7) Don’t be alarmed if you can see a bit of excess glue! The glue will dry clear and won’t be visible.

There you have it! Beautiful, full lashes in no time at all. If you’re still a little scared to apply yourself, practice a few times before the big event. You’ll be a pro in no time!

Hair Trends: The Comeback of the Perm?

How many of us used to get perms back in the day? Don’t worry, we won’t judge you! Especially since, according to the New York Times, perms are making a come back, except this time they’re called body waves and they’re not as severe as the perms of the 80’s. Think soft, pretty waves a la Kate Hudson, pictured above. Treatments can be pricey (averaging about $150 to $400 a session) but we have to admit, it’s a great option for ladies with straight hair that want a little more volume and don’t have time to curl their hair every day. So, what do you think? Would you get a perm, err, body wave?

Fun Workout Hairstyles

Tired of wearing the same old ponytail when you work out? We know that looking cute perhaps isn’t the most important thing when exercising, but it doesn’t hurt to switch it up every now and then. If your hair is stuck in a work out rut try one of these hairstyles!

1) French Braids: Part hair down the middle and separate each side. Start braiding at the top of the head and work down, incorporating small sections of hair with each braid to create a french braid effect. Secure ends.

2) Wear a headband: Simple elastic headbands can be purchased at your local drugstore and look super cute. They’re also functional, as they keep hair off of the face. They’re especially great if you have bangs.

Thinking about getting bangs but worried about the upkeep? Bangs aren’t quite as scary as they seem if you know how to style them.

1) When blow drying hair, make sure to blow dry bangs to the front. This will help them to fall correctly.
2) If you have frizzier hair, be sure to flat iron bangs once they’re dry.
3) Most bangs look best with a slight curl. This can be achieved with a large barrel curling iron, or a flat iron.
4) Side swept bangs are very chic. If your bangs just aren’t acting right, simply sweep them to the side!
5) If you’re growing your bangs out and just don’t want them on your face, try pinning them back in a bouffant. Very on trend!

SAG Awards: Trend Alert

We noticed a surprising trend at last night’s Screen Actors Guild Awards: soft, loose, flowing waves. We love this easy, pretty look which is such a contrast from past more fashion forward styles. To achieve this look wrap sections of hair around a large barrel curling iron. Once each section is curled use a bobby pin to set curl in place while hair cools. Once all hair is curled remove bobby pins and finish with a bit of hairspray. Super simple, and you’ll be all set to look like a red carpet star!

Wished we’d given you more ideas for fun, easy hair yesterday? Today we will!

1) Sleek and Straight: This look is super chic and super easy. Be sure, however that if you’re going to wear your hair straight, that you have a good trim, otherwise it will look messy. Use a good flat iron to iron straight sections of hair in pieces. Finish of with a bit of hairspray to keep hair in place and if needed apply a little gel to the roots.

2) Add an Accessory: Want to make your ‘do more fancy without a lot of work. Buy an embellished barrette and add it to your simple do upgrading your look from simple to chic in an instant.

3)Try a Flip: Think flipped hair is totally retro? Try taking a modern twist on the 60’s style. Roll hair in jumbo hot rollers in two inch sections. Make sure hair is rolled so that it flips out. Once hair is set, wait 15 minutes and brush it out and you’re ready to go!

Going for a new look? Try some of these fun, easy, hairstyles.

1) Tight Braid: To achieve this look start by applying gel to the roots of the hair. Brush hair back into a ponytail, then just braid the ponytail and secure at the end.

2) Mini Pompadour: Not only is this one fun, but it’s great if you’re growing out your bangs. Start by grabbing the section of hair on the top of your head between the temples. Tease this section of hair at the roots. Smooth out with your fingers and pin down hair at the center of the crown of your head.

3) High Bun: This one is very chic. Blow dry hair while tousling it with your hands. Next, pull hair into a high ponytail at the top of your head. Tease the ponytail, twist it and wrap in in a bun, pinning it in place. Be sure to finish off with a bit of hairspray.
